The rude sound of silence

In time to time it happens: A potential client asks for a quote and I give it. And then nothing. After a week or two I'm very much aware the price was too high and I got silence treatment. Of course it's a missed opportunity, not just for me but for client as well. No negotiations. No new offer. Nothing gets done.

It's a really rude thing to do. Saying "this is too much for me" wouldn't be rude at all. Or maybe asking for a new price, better suited for your budget. The silent treatment kind of leaves me hanging and results to really unnecessary awkwardness.

Actually if the budget is really tight it would be easier for both parties to just present it out front: "I have 1000 euros to spend, what can I get for it?" Maybe you cannot get a full e-commerce site with all flavors, but at least you'd get something instead of good old nothing.
